Independent Power Production - Expanding independent power production and supply in the Republic of South Sudan offers several benefits to the country. Among others, – 1) reducing hard currency expenditure on importation of Diesel Fuel, i.e. diesel fuel used for standby electricity generators, which by estimates from national authorities is 70% by volume; 2) power generation and supply from resources produced within the country is more likely to be scaled up to reach the average households. However, this proposal is taken into consideration with plans to rapidly transition to electricity from renewable resources; 3) most of all, it will accelerate improvements in the delivery of social services, access to safe drinking water, and overall quality of life to millions of people in South Sudan.
Modular Crude Oil Refinery
With the rapidly growing emerging economies in the region there is significant and rapidly growing market for petroleum energy in East Africa. CAPE will work with partners to develop capacity in the downstream sector in refining, bulk storage, transport and distribution of petroleum products in South Sudan and Ethiopia.
Geothermal Resources Development
The East African rift system passes through Djibouti, Ethiopia, Kenya, Uganda, Rwanda, Burundi, and extending up to parts of southern Africa. Experts estimate countries in Eastern Africa have potential to generate over 20,000 MWe from geothermal sources.
Studies have shown increased access to sustainable and reliable energy sources could improve livelihoods and quality of life through increased productivity and economic growth and could lift millions more out of poverty in East Africa.
CAPE INFRASTRUCTURE, in collaboration with Geothermal Resources Group is exploring various models for engagement with government and private sector in the region for the development and expanded use of this renewable resource in the East Africa region, mainly Ethiopia and Kenya.
