Professors from Brown University, Duke, Stanford, USC Team up with Dun & Bradstreet Credibility in Development of the First Ever Credibility Score for Businesses

LOS ANGELES – March 25, 2013 – Dun & Bradstreet Credibility Corp. in collaboration with several top university professors, today announced the beta launch of the Credibility Score. The goal is to test, evaluate and iterate a credibility score that is the most comprehensive measure of a business’s credibility across hundreds of factors and measures.

The new Credibility Score is a holistic approach that assesses the most important factors of a business’s credibility: transparency, stability, trustworthiness, and sentiment. It helps customers, vendors and suppliers evaluate a business’s credibility and make the important decision of whether or not to engage with that business.

“With the beta launch of the Credibility Score, we’re responding to a demand in the market for a more comprehensive way to rate businesses,” said Jeff Stibel, Chairman & CEO, Dun & Bradstreet Credibility Corp. “It’s not just about reviews – it’s about reputation. This approach will let businesses analyze their credibility, take control, build their scores and ultimately help attract more loyal customers and grow.”

Dun & Bradstreet Credibility has four issued patents on credibility and is using its patented technology in the Credibility Score which utilizes data mining and analysis to capture the many sources of data available and to use that data to go beyond credit scores, reviews and ratings to assess the character of a business.

The cross-disciplinary research team includes Dun & Bradstreet Credibility Corp. and an elite group of professors from Brown University, Duke, Stanford, and USC specializing in data analysis, sentiment analysis, cognitive sciences, biology, natural language processing, business strategy, technology and entrepreneurship.  The team is led by Wisdom Lu at Dun & Bradstreet Credibility Corp. and Dr. Paul Allopenna, Assistant Professor of Research, Department of Cognitive, Linguistic & Psychological Sciences at Brown University.

“How do you know if a business is trustworthy?'” asked Dr. Allopenna. “The Credibility Score provides the answer. For each company, we analyze hundreds of factors through our model to see how people respond to that business. It provides more complete, and therefore more powerful information on a company’s viability.”

With the launch of Credibility Score, consumers and businesses alike will now have a new tool to determine whether they want to do business with a company using critical information beyond just a company’s traditional financial scores.
